Rambam set out to organise the whole of Jewish law into a single readable code, with every subject in its place and nothing left to guesswork. י״ד The work is also called the Yad HaChazakah, the strong hand. The letters of יד (yad, hand) carry the numerical value 14: one letter-pair for the fourteen books.
